Dr. Susan Meyerle envisioned Legacy Archive Solutions Team as a direct result of her experiences serving nearly 25 years on her state’s licensing board. As a counselor and a regulatory board member, Dr. Meyerle’s experiences creates a rare view of the mental health field.

When a counselor’s family member contacted the state licensing board after their death, inquiring about disposal of health records, Dr. Meyerle recognized a chasm in care. The state licensing board’s role did not allow custody of the records and the family member was recommended to find a local provider who would assume authority of the records.

Another health care office posted a sign on the door of the office to let patients/clients know that the provider had passed away. Patients/clients were unaware until they arrived for the appointment and saw the sign on the door. No emotional support provided. No referral information provided. No instructions on how to access their records.

Even more recently a health care provider died unexpectedly, leaving the family to close the practice and navigate the world of HIPAA and medical records for which they were unprepared. When a family is grieving, details of patient/client care may not be top priorities.

Her own quest to find her medical records from a deceased provider solidified Dr. Meyerle’s decision that something needed to be done. This commitment to serve patients/clients and the health care community led her to create Legacy Archive Solutions Team, a one-stop shop for health care providers and their clients.
